"We've been waiting for this store now for well over a year," said Mike Sigelman of Golden Valley. The 225000 square-foot store doubles the size of its older version and includes a grocery section as well as a second floor kitchen and bathroom display area. The store has 41 different kitchen displays for customers to try out and envision what it might look like in their own home. Though the store did little to advertise its opening day, preferring to start with a "soft opening" and opt for a grand opening on March 24, General Manager Steve Gossen said he was pleasantly surprised to see the crowds of people checking out the new store bright and early. "It opened with a bang, it was people rushing in this morning," said Gossen. While the Golden Valley store, located there since around the late 1970s, has long been a popluar spot for area customers looking to pick-up everything from nails and screwdrivers to cleaners and salts, the large-scale store expansion is part of a larger effort by Menards to increase its presence and visibility.
