Doors ! Again, for I know. Ready to share new things that are useful. You and your friends.

I am a professional cabinet maker. For the past eight years I have carved a niche in the area of repairs and alterations to kitchens and baths. Among the many request for repairs which I receive, replacing thermofoil cabinet doors is high on the list. First let me say that there are two other popular terms used to describe this style of door, MDF and vinyl wrap. There are usually two types of damage that are the most common with this type of door. The vinyl peels away from the board due to excessive heat or the plastic coating begins to loosen because the manufacture didn't get enough glue on the surfaces of the board when the doors were being made. In both of these cases, the doors are usually beyond repair and must be replaced. Here's the problem though, many customers have no idea where the actual doors came from. There are literally hundreds of MDF door manufacturing companies scattered throughout the United States and Canada. So, here's what I do to get around this minor set back. Most of the time if I remove a vinyl wrapped drawer front from the drawer and look on the back side of it, there's a sticker on it. This label will have the companies name, date of production, door style and color codes on it. Once we have this information we then contact the company to find out if the doors are still under warranty. Some MDF manufactures offer a five year guarantee against discoloration and de-lamination. Please note, heat damaged doors will not be covered with the guarantee. The next step is to request a catalog and color samples. Once these materials arrive we are then able to identify the door style, match the color and order the replacement parts.

Tips for protecting your thermofoil doors against heat damage:

1) Remove the drawers and doors that are next to your oven when you are using the self cleaning feature. When cleaning is in process there is a small amount of extreme heat that escapes through the edges of the oven door. This will melt the plastic and cause it to shrink and curl.
2) Avoid placing deep fryers directly underneath of the upper cabinet doors. Here again the heat will affect the edges.
3) Either pull or push toaster ovens away from the door edges so that the rising heat does not cause any damage to the doors.

A few words about the warranty coverage on thermofoil cabinet doors.

It's important to know that even though your doors may be replaceable at no cost from the manufacture, you will still have to pay a professional cabinet man to make the exchange. Just as an example, if your cabinet man charges per hour from start to finish the cost of 21' of uppers and 21' of base cabinets should cost around five to six hundred dollars. The company who originally made the doors should cover all of the shipping costs. So if the cabinet man says you will have to pay for having the doors shipped, I suggest calling the company directly and finding out for yourself.

Hire A Professional

Replacing thermofoil doors should be done by a professional. So, "don't try this at home." If you hire someone to do the work for you, it will save you a lot of time and aggravation in the end. Professional cabinet men have special drilling machines and templates that allow them to produce excellent results when they are replacing MDF doors.

Do you know about - How to Install Cabinet Light Rail Molding

Mastercraft Doors! Again, for I know. Ready to share new things that are useful. You and your friends.

So you want to know how to install your own kitchen under cabinet light rail molding. Do not attempt the installation unless you possess some basic carpentry skills. You will also need a few power and hand tools. Do not attempt this phase of your kitchen cabinet installation without having sufficient time. NO hand miter box cutting allowed! You must achieve the highest quality install possible.

What I said. It is not outcome that the true about Mastercraft Doors. You look at this article for info on what you wish to know is Mastercraft Doors.

How is How to Install Cabinet Light Rail Molding

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Mastercraft Doors.

Tools and Materials Needed:

Chop Saw Electric Drill Three Clamps (I prefer Jorgensen Clamps) Correct Length Screws Countersink Bit 1/16" Pilot Hole Drill Bit 3/16" Drill Bit Hand Screw-driver Yellow Carpenters Glue Matching Wood Putty Stick

One of the most popular questions people ask is; "should the molding be installed flush or recessed with the face of the cupboard?" I always recess the light rail no less than one eight (1/8") of an inch. This just looks better than trying to get it perfectly flush with the face-frame. Keep in mind that the light rail should be flush with the end of the cabinet next to where a space-saver microwave gets installed.

Roughly measure the length of each piece of molding you will need and add four inches to each piece. Hopefully you thought to order plenty of extra in case you make a mistake. Cut all of the pieces you need over size first.

Now cut a few "small" practice miter pieces at forty five degrees. These should be used to double check that your corners on the cupboards are at true ninety degree angles.

Now, when you start cutting the actual molding pieces of light rail, only cut the angles on one piece at a time. The key to installing the molding correctly is in working out the accurate details one piece at a time and one miter joint at a time.

Prior to making your cuts, drill holes from the inside of the cupboard downward using the three sixteenths inch (3/16") drill bit. Then, counter sink the holes from inside the cupboards. These are the holes that will secure the molding to the cabinetry.

The finished end pieces of molding will be attached to the cabinets with ¾" x 1" X 8-1/2" blocks. The blocks get fastened to the short return pieces of molding and then screwed to the cupboard from underneath. The reason for doing it this way is because you cannot fasten them from the inside of the cabinet.

Installing Kitchen Cabinet Light Rail:

Decide which piece is best to install first (consider working largest to smallest) Make your cuts Apply yellow glue sparingly to the miter joints Clamp the piece in place using the Jorgensen clamps Drill the light rail through the counter sunk holes using the 1/16" drill bit Secure the molding in place with screws Wipe off the access glue immediately with a damp cloth Repeat these steps on each light rail piece

The three sixteenths inch hole you drilled should be bigger than the screws you are installing the molding with. If you need to adjust the molding a little, loosen the screws with a hand screw-driver. Align the light rail accordingly and then secure it tightly into perfect position.

If you begin to get frustrated, take a break. This is tedious work. The joints on the kitchen cabinet light rail should be as tight as possible.

The final step of the installation process is filling the miter joints with the matching wood putty. Wipe off any excess putty with a dry rag.

The first thing you'll need to do is cut a rough door out of the same material your cabinets are made of.

Cut the sides of the door slightly longer than the cabinet frame

Reposition the wood and cut the top and bottom slightly larger than the frame opening.

Next item is to cut out the edges of the door.

Measure the height and width of the door frame. Trace this measurement onto the backside of the cabinet door.

Adjust your table saw so that the blade is roughly a third the depth of the wood.

Trim around the edges of the door.

Next you'll need a router to bevel the edges of the door.

Run the router around the sides, top and bottom of the cabinet door.

Wipe off and dust and take the door over to the cabinets and fit check it.

Trim off any areas that don't fit inside the frame

If everything fits snug go ahead and set the door aside and start on the next door.

Repeat this process for all of the single doors.

Making a set of double doors is a little bit different.

You'll use the same steps for creating the template except this time cut 1 sheet of wood that will fit both doors.

Once you've made this cut measure the center of the wood and cut it lengthwise splitting it into the two doors.

The reason for using a single sheet of wood is to preserve the wood grain pattern, the doors will match.

Don't rout or cut the inner length of the 2 doors since you'll want them to fit flush inside the cabinet.

At this point you'll need an assistant to hold the double doors in place to check the fit.

Since you didn't cut the middle line on the doors you can trim them down flush on these sides.

Now that you have all of the doors built it's time to sand everything down, smooth any edges and stain.

For sanding it's a good idea to work outside to limit the amount of fine saw dust that can settle on everything.

After you've finished sanding you'll need to stain.

Since this is a large project it's a good idea to go ahead and mix up multiple cans of stain into a larger bucket. This will assure a uniform color across all the doors.

Apply a protective varnish to the doors after the stain has dried.

That's all there is to the actual door build. Figuring out how to build cabinet doors can be pretty involved. As long as you have the time and proper tools though it's a rewarding way to save a lot of money in a kitchen remodel.
